Care for your nervous system, lymphatic system, and whole self
Neuro-lymphatics - how the brain clears waste
I’ve started offering a new type of bodywork this past fall that I’m calling neuro-lymphatic drainage. I’m incredibly excited about it, and think it’s going to be transformative for a lot of people. I also want to be clear about why I’m excited - there’s a lot of nonsense out there in the wellness world, and it can be hard to tell what’s for real.
More on pacing - use the cane!
It turns out I still have more to say about pacing. Specifically, I’d like to talk about using aids for mobility - canes, crutches, wheelchairs, scooters, and any other device that makes it easier to move from one place to another. They aren’t for everyone, but if they're something you’ve used or considered, read on.
Pacing - part 3/3
In previous posts, I talked about the general principles for pacing and some specific strategies for how to budget energy. I talked being mindful about how much energy is available, and how pacing ourselves can allow us to use limited energy on the things that matter to us. The budgeting worksheets from the last post (and below) can help us get more clear about our priorities and the costs of doing different activities. But ultimately, it’s on us to make choices that work for us.
Pacing - part 2/3
In the last post, I talked about what pacing is, but it's easier said than done. Let's get specific about how to budget your energy, so you can make sure you can do the things that matter most.
Pacing - part 1/3
Are you tired all the time? Do you regularly feel fatigued, or have chronic exhaustion? Do you have a chronic illness? Does it flare up if you overdo it? Does your energy crash if you do too much, or if you don’t take care of yourself exactly right? Does being tired all the time keep you from doing the things you care about?
You may need to start pacing yourself better. Let’s talk about what pacing is, and how to start pacing yourself better.

Choosing compression garments - see how to select the right type, pressure, and size from a certified lymphatic therapist.
Lymphatic Massage for Yourself
Using hands or other tools in a specific sequence, we can encourage the lymph system to do its job more efficiently. While there are additional benefits to receiving lymphatic massage from someone else, it’s possible to use your own hands in that same sequence to get many of the benefits at home. The sequence for lymphatic massage are easiest to understand once we understand how the lymphatic system works.
